Public Works improves road safety by eliminating Mazarrón black dots (07/04/2010)

The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, accompanied by the mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, today inaugurated the work on improving road safety conducted in the municipality, which removed two sections of accident concentration.

The action was carried out on the road RM-D4, which communicates with Lorca Mazarrón through the RM-D8 (of the RM-D7 to Camp Lee), and consisted of the elimination of dangerous curves, which were replaced by a new path that ensures adequate security conditions and visibility.

It also expanded the platform to ten meters wide, which doubles the maximum speed to 80 mph.

The work has had a budget of EUR 1,029,495, added to more than half a million euros for the expansion of the cruise Mazarrón, have made a total investment of 1.5 billion euros from the regional government.

"The significant investment by the regional government in the preparation of this road will minimize the risk of accidents, improve access to the hamlets located in the area and speed up communications in the town for the summer," said Ballesta.

Improved crossing Mazarrón

Moreover, the director and the mayor visited the crossing of Mazarron, RM-332, where the Directorate General of Highways built a new roundabout and widened the road that leads to the Puerto de Mazarrón, with a total investment of 566,396 euros.

The section under the action includes the roundabout connecting the "Ships Phoenicians' with the new, that will service the streets Narciso Yepes and Imperial Eagle.

"This is a performance of a high social cost, and improving road safety and fluidity in a way that accounts for more than six million vehicles per year and provides greater flexibility in the movement, especially in summer when traffic increases dramatically and Mazarrón reaches 30,000 vehicles per day on this road, which will improve access to beaches and facilitate travel to residents and vacationers, "said Ballesta.

The work involved the duplication of part of the layout of the crossing, which is extended from two to four lanes 3.5 m wide each.

The packaging also includes the corresponding inner and outer shoulders, sidewalks two feet and a central median of three meters, in addition to the renewal of signaling and lighting.
