The Ministry of Agriculture and Water shape Mazarrón professionals on the techniques of biological control in tomato (03/07/2009)

The Director General of Operations and Training Modernization of Agricultural, Ángel García Lidón, along with the mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, presented the diplomas of course "Biological Control on Tomato," and the cards and Welfare Transport, farmers and ranchers who have participated in training organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Water, the City Council and the Professional Mazarrón ASAJA.

During the course we have analyzed the biological control systems that combine various techniques such as the release of beneficial insects, improve the fencing of the implementation of greenhouses and water traps.

Currently, there are still a reference for other producing areas and have shown that it is possible to produce quality tomatoes with high populations of this microlepidopter and a small number of applications of pesticides.

In this sense, the general manager recalled the recent visit by the authorities of the Canary Islands who came to the region to see first hand the successful implementation of these measures by the tomato growers.

Lidón García stressed the commitment that the Ministry carries out the practice of non-chemical plant protection measures, framed within the Programme 'Murcia, Clean Agriculture', which has invested 1.4 million euros.

Throughout the event offered a technical paper on the control of tomato moth Tuta absoluta, based on integrated control systems.

After delivery of the diplomas, the Autonomous responsible congratulated those attending the course by the actions they perform in their farms to control this pest recently introduced.
