Mazarrón population continues to grow (27/01/2009)

The municipality of Mazarrón population continues to grow, because in the last quarter has increased from 35,149 to 36,436 people to date, of which 19,416 are men and 17,020 women.

These data show the interest of foreign citizens to take up residence in the town, being the most demanded country of origin: United Kingdom with 6,987 inhabitants.

These figures result of a detailed demographic study also indicate that the citizens of Mazarrón live in perfect harmony with people of eighty nationalities for which the Consistory regularly produces all of its programming activities, especially the social, cultural and educational .

Mazarron has a significant predominance of European citizens from up to twenty different countries including Germany, Belgium, Bulgaria, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom and Romania.

Another of the most significant population of this study is that in 2000 the town had 18,892 inhabitants, whose number has doubled in less than ten years.

The main reason that has motivated this population increase is the major tourist attraction, natural, historic and cultural home to the town.

The geographical setting of Mazarrón, composed of 35 kilometers of coastline, 10 of them virgin, is one of its references to regional, national and international.

In this regard the Mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, points out that "Mazarrón has developed a spectacular population growth in the last ten years what made you move from one village to become a cosmopolitan city, whose population is mainly from the British Foreign and whose integration has been developed with great success.
