The mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, along with Councillor for Infrastructure, José Antonio Román, this morning attended the presentation of the new RM-23 highway between Mazarrón and Alhama de Murcia, which corresponds to the splitting of the MU-603 road, and highways connecting the RM-2 (Campo de Cartagena-Alhama de Murcia) and RM-3 (Totana, Mazarron) in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Public Works.

The Director of Public Works, José Ballesta, announced the opening to traffic of the new expressway will greatly improve communication between municipalities Guadalentín Valley, especially in the municipality of Mazarrón.

With this new route, and after opening to traffic for almost a year Totana motorway-Mazarrón, Mazarrón Alhama-the journey through the MU-603, which was 48 minutes, is reduced to 21.5 minutes, which a saving of 26.5 minutes in this movement.

Also, this new road infrastructure will ensure greater communication to more than 35,000 inhabitants of the municipality, like other drivers that usually circulate through these pathways.

The new highway has a length of 9.1 kilometers and has two links that allow access to the highway and give continuity to the rest of the way the town of Alhama.

The dimensions are 10.50 meters wide total, including two lanes of 3.50 meters, 2.50 meters outside berm and an inner of 1 meter, with a median between lanes of 2 meters.

The study projected traffic for the road, the calculation made on the service levels currently available and a horizon of 20 years indicate that it will begin serving the 6,000 vehicles Average Daily Traffic (ADT) to present to 40,000 are planned for 2027.
