Encarna Guillén, Minister of Health of the Autonomous Region, visited on Tuesday the two health centers in Mazarrón.
Accompanied by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jimenez and manager of Murcia Health Service, Francisco Agulló, the minister toured the facilities later to take stock of the attention paid to the municipality.
As pointed out by Guillen, last year 241,992 health consultations were attended, and 5,420 of them were house calls.
With a population of about 29,000 residents, the town maintains a positive ratio for professional health cards, allowing increased performance at home.
The two health centers in Mazarrón have an average quota of Family Medicine optimal, since in no case exceed the average set of 1,400 patients per doctor (1,385 and 1,326 in Mazarrón Puerto de Mazarrón).
The same applies in pediatrics, where the optimal number is 1,000 patients per doctor, and in the case of Mazarrón the average quota stands at 822, while in Puerto de Mazarrón is 993.
During the visit, Guillen said, "We are working especially by strengthening the qualitative leap that has given the Health Area II in the Santa Lucia Hospital and now with the functional plan to revive the Hospital del Rosell".
Alicia Jimenez requests new specialists and prevention plans
The mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jimenez, previously received the minister at the offices of City Hall.
During the meeting, Jimenez took the opportunity to ask Encarna Guillen new specialists and prevention plans do improve health care service that receives Mazarrón.
The Minister of Health, Encarna Guillen noted municipal demands and also recalled that "it is essential to further progress in improving primary care."
Guillen explained that "electronic prescriptions and increasing health centers and clinics network allows us to reduce the quota of patients and devote more time to care, both in the centers and at home."
In this regard, the Minister of Health stated that "home care is one of the actions we are improving as to monitor chronically ill is a measure with good results."
In addition, the minister referred to the prevention as another of the main actions of the Ministry.
In this regard, he stressed that "in Mazarrón work successfully screened for colon and rectal cancer and breast cancer screening."
He also indicated that over 60 percent of women receiving the call to participate in the diagnosis of breast cancer seek, but "we must continue to increase these figures" had an impact on a visit that also was attended by the Area Manager Health II of Cartagena, Jose headquarters and the Councillor for Health of the City of Mazarrón, Laura Ortiz.
240,000 cases handled
Of the 147,980 cases handled in Mazarrón Health Center in 2015, most correspond to family medicine, with 74,787 visits;
14,931 to 58,262 to pediatrics and nursing.
Regarding Emergency consultations, 15,877 were related to Nursing, 13,357 emergency department of Family Medicine and Pediatrics at 3,518.
Regarding the visits, mostly they correspond to Nursing (3,649), followed by Family Medicine (331) and Pediatrics (8).
Meanwhile, the number of cases handled over the past year the Health Centre Puerto de Mazarrón totaled 94,012.
Of these, 48,987 correspond to Family Medicine, Pediatrics and 10,718 to 34,307 Nurse.
Regarding the Emergency, a total of 22,188 were treated.
Of these, 9,748 of Family Medicine, 1,857 and 1,246 emergency pediatric emergency nursing.
Two centers and three offices
The Health District 38-Mazarrón, attached to the management of the Health Area II (Cartagena) comprises health centers Mazarrón and Puerto de Mazarrón and the offices of Campo Sol, Cañada de Gallego and Majada and the SUAP Mazarrón.
