The White-headed Duck will fly from the beaches of Mazarrón Wetlands of the mulberry this August (09/08/2013)

The Department of Environment of the City of Mazarrón and the Association of Southeast Naturalists (Anse) are scheduled for this August various environmental education activities in order to inform the White-headed Duck, a species in danger of extinction whose presence has been found in the wetlands of the avenue of mulberry trees.

The activity program, totally free, will be held at various beaches in the municipality of Mazarrón and the Wetland of mulberry trees and framed in the context of the European Project LIFE09 NAT/ES/000516 "Conservation of White-headed Duck in the Region of Murcia . Spain ".

It was presented by the mayor of the Environment, David Fernandez, and representatives of Anse, Mari Paz Romero and Carmen Martinez.

The activities will start on Sunday August 11 with an information booth at the market of Puerto de Mazarrón 11:00 to 14:00 h, and continue on Wednesdays 14, 21, August 28 and Saturday 17, 24, 31 August.

These days will install an information booth for 11-14 h on beaches and children's workshops will, in the evenings, there will be an interpretive tour and bird watching in the wetlands water of the mulberry trees, the hours of 18:30 to 20.30, being the meeting point of the Wastewater Treatment Station of Mazarrón (WWTP), next to the boardwalk own mulberry trees, at 18:30.

Carmen Martinez explained that "citizens can come in the morning to our informative posts on beaches, for the LIFE and the White-headed Duck, star of the European project that is developing in the towns of Mazarrón, Alhama de Murcia, Molina de Segura. Throughout the morning also develop different games and children's workshops and dances, trivia questions and Malvasia masks so that younger children can learn in a playful way to take care of emblematic species present in the natural areas of the municipality ".

Meanwhile Mari Paz Romero added that "to complete the morning activities, evenings interpretive tours are conducted by Wetland mulberry trees in order to find the natural and corner of this wetland site listed as 'Ramsar' so and the actions that have been made as a result of the LIFE project. The tour will end with a workshop to observe the different birds that are found in the lakes, among which will be on display to females and males of the White-headed Duck. "

Environment councilor recalled that "these activities are conducted under the LIFE09/ES/000516 project 'Conservation of White-headed Duck in the Region of Murcia. Spain', with 75% co-financed with European funds and under the actions "D.1.

Disclosure schools and social organizations "and" D.2.

In addition, the project coordinating beneficiary participates as DG Environment and other associated beneficiaries the municipalities of Molina de Segura and Alhama de Murcia.
