The council examines 250 date palms to combat the red palm weevil (13/08/2012)

The Department of Urban Public Services Management Mazarron Town Hall has undertaken pruning of date palms over 8 meters high in a campaign that has also undertaken a review of 250 of these specimens to determine their health.

In this sense, the palm trees have been applied to prevent a phytosanitary treatment of red weevil attack.

Two palm trees had been affected by this plague "have been cut to avoid the risk that they would produce are dropped and accident, given the difficulty of saving them from this disease," said Council Member Services area manager, Juan Miguel Muñoz .

The mayor explained that "the palm trees have been quickly destroyed to prevent the spread of the weevil is causing havoc in copy of private areas."

This campaign will continue taking place in the coming weeks to spread to other palms of the municipality.

More than 4,000 of these trees receive treatment plant designed to combat the red palm weevil.

The work of pruning and review of the palm trees are being made by a company in town "now that we have enough credit available to undertake this work," said the mayor.
