Administration and neighborhood platform approach positions to reconcile the actions of San Cristóbal II with the preservation of the mining landscape (22/03/2018)

The Board Room of the City of Mazarrón hosted a meeting Wednesday of the Minister of Employment, Universities and Enterprise, Juan Hernandez, with the mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez, the councilors of Historic Heritage and Services, Pedro Martínez and Domingo Hernández and the representatives from the neighborhood platform, Juan Sánchez Calventus, Mariano Guillén and Javier Martínez, as well as technicians from the General Directorate of Energy, Industrial and Mining Activity.

After the meeting the mayor indicated that the objective of the meeting was to present to the Community a municipal proposal that "seeks to make compatible the actions carried out in San Cristóbal II with the preservation of the mining landscape, always guaranteeing the security of the people" .

The person in charge of the neighborhood platform said that they are trying to find "a solution that reconciles the structural safety of the raft with the preservation of what is considered an icon of the Mazarrón mines".

For his part, the counselor pointed out that there are two interests, one the safety of the raft and consequently that of the neighbors and another that of the conservation of the mining landscape.

The counselor said that he is studying how to find a technical solution that matches both interests.

"We are going to take steps according to the needs and the first is to eliminate the risk of collapse of the raft and avoid the danger that this situation may cause."
