Fishing gear, marine instruments and a nautical chart of the Gulf of Mazarrón on the floor of a fish market that offers a renewed image.
A photographic exhibition completes the musealization project of a place that attracts the interest of a large number of tourists.
The Fish Market of Puerto de Mazarrón is not only one of the most productive logistics centers in the fishing sector of the Region of Murcia, but it is also a popular spot, especially in summer.
For all these reasons, the Fishermen's Association agreed to a call for aid from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund through the local action group GALPEMUR who finally obtained funding of 60,000 euros to develop a project that is now a reality.
The result of the enhancement of the Lonja as an interpretive center has been verified this Friday by the mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez, accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Francisco Jódar, of the Councilor for Fisheries of the Municipality of Mazarrón, Isabel María López and the Senior Employer, Manuel Sánchez.
Positions of the Maritime Captaincy, of the General Directorate of Agriculture, responsible for Galpemur, the architect of the project and members of the photographic team have also been present in the Lonja de Puerto de Mazarrón.
The project combines fishing activity with tourism.
The routes that include the visit to the Lonja are some of the most demanded in summer.
The fishermen share their work with pleasure with the expectation that it generates among visitors who usually take pictures to remember the experience.
After renewing its image, the Lonja offers a more attractive aspect to share the activity that it generates.
The idea of the Brotherhood with the support of the City of Mazarrón is to encourage visits also among students of schools in the municipality.
