The City Council of Mazarrón, through the Council of Social Policy, has joined the pilot project ESCAN that develops a free program of psychological intervention and prevention of aggression assisted by trained dogs.

Funded by the Autonomous Community and launched by the ESCAN Project, this program reaches Mazarrón to provide its service to victims of gender violence.

The Mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez and the Councilor for Social Policy, Laura Ortiz, presented this program in the company of Enrique Cruz, responsible for the project.

Alicia Jiménez stressed the importance of a convention that affects the benefits for self-esteem and the sense of protection provided by these pets.

The project carries out psychosocial care therapy for women and children who are victims of gender violence, which simultaneously provides an aggression prevention tool.

The beneficiaries of the programan must count among the necessary requirements with a judicial sentence and the approval of a departure order in force.

By means of a trained dog that lives the 24 hours with the victim, the therapy is developed that is directed by a psychologist of the association.

The woman must attend the training center for a time to learn how to master the dog before taking it home.

In this center they teach the victim to handle the animal and to act in the event of an attempt of aggression.

The program is free and those responsible for the project are responsible for food, vaccines and animal insurance.

Other requirements to access the program are the psychological criterion determined by a specialist who values the utility in each case and a psychosocial and cynical criterion that addresses the living conditions of the woman and the coexistence with the animal, said Enrique Cruz, responsible for the ESCAN Project, who maintains control with the victim periodically, with no time limit.

Next to the canine beach of Playa Grande a team of trainers has made a demonstration with a Belgian malinois shepherd, breed that next to the German shepherd are the most suitable for the application of this type of programs.
