The construction of the new roundabout will improve access to the sports complex Mazarrón will begin in December (26/10/2016)

The Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructure has realized today the Governing Council that have been awarded the works that will start the deployment of the RM-332 road, which links the town of Mazarrón in Puerto de Mazarrón, by building a new roundabout giving access to the sports complex in the town.

The Minister Pedro Rivera said today during a press conference following the Governing Council that works with a budget of 258,371 euros and a lead time of five months, "will begin in December."

Pedro Rivera said that this work "will be a marked improvement on the road and will provide more road safety, traffic flow and ease in the movements that have to perform neighbors to access the sports city of Mazarrón".

Currently, there is a T-shaped intersection that "makes it difficult and unsafe maneuvers".

He also stressed that the layout of the RM-332 road between Mazarrón and Puerto de Mazarrón "is the section without unfolding of the regional network that supports more traffic, more than 13,500 vehicles a day, causing frequent retentions".

The Minister of Development stressed that the construction of the roundabout "is the first step for the future unfolding of this stretch of the RM-332, a highly demanded action and necessary to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors of Mazarrón" .

The future roundabout will have characteristics and best practices for improving mobility and fluidity in vehicle traffic, thanks to an outer diameter of 68 meters, with two lanes, 46 meters and inner diameter dimensions.

It will also be conditioned to be compatible with the future unfolding of this stretch of road.

The Minister for Public Works and Infrastructure also reported the current state of repair and reinforcement being carried out on the bridge that crosses over the Rambla de Las Moreras, and is expected to be completed later this year.

The project represents a total investment of 95,153 euros.

Pedro Rivera said that the works are to "increase the strength and the security infrastructure for both vehicles entering and Puerto Mazarrón and pedestrians passing through the bridge."

This route, which connects Cartagena with the fast track of Lorca-Eagles, recorded a circulation of more than 3 million vehicles a year.

Improvements in port

The Minister said that during this year of rehabilitation and repair works will be executed in the harbor and port of Mazarrón esplanades, to adapt infrastructure to the needs and demands of fishing vessels operating in it.

The most important work will include stabilizing a part of the quay of the bank, which has been descalzada by the propellers due to the absence of guard blocks and repair the esplanades of fish market and seawall.

These works, valued at 72,500 euros, will benefit the fisheries sector in Mazarrón, consisting of 24 boats and dedicated to the minor arts, purse and trawl, which catch mainly anchovies, sardines, mackerel, squid, whiting and seafood.

In addition, there have been renovations and maintenance of the docks of the fish market, which involves an excess of 20,000 euros investment and have included the installation of lighting in the cliff area and tinglado fishing south of the pier, plus repair cantil public and socket port of Mazarrón fish market toilets.
