The Civil Guard investigates the owner of a Mazarrón dog kennel for the crime of animal abuse (25/09/2020)

| He is allegedly responsible for a crime related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals for animal abuse | In the inspection carried out in the kennel, the existence of a score of dogs in terrible hygienic conditions has been verified The lifeless body of a dog in an advanced state of decomposition was also found The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed the 'Bulmas' operation, established to clarify an alleged case of animal abuse in Mazarrón, which has resulted in the investigation of the owner of a dog kennel, who has been instructed to carry out proceedings as the alleged perpetrator of a crime related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals. In the middle of the month, civil guards from the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of Águilas opened the operation when they learned of some alleged facts related to animal abuse in a dog kennel in the Mazarron municipality. The Civil Guard carried out an inspection of the farm where the canine kennel was located, in which it was found that the kennels where about twenty Bulmastiff dogs were housed lacked running water and, although the animals were in apparent good sanitary condition , were in terrible hygienic conditions, among other causes due to the accumulation of abundant feces and urine remains. The SEPRONA agents also verified in situ the existence of several small cages to house specimens of this breed, since the height and size of this type of dog, characterized by its large size, locked in these rooms are exposed to a remarkable reduced mobility. On the farm, the existence of a fenced space of approximately five square meters was also detected, which also lacked running water, a cemented floor and a roof, and without any lateral protection that would allow the enclosed animal to take refuge from the inclement weather.

In this space, the civil guards found the lifeless body of a canine, whose race could not be determined due to its advanced state of decomposition. After obtaining all the necessary evidence, the civil guards have investigated the owner of the kennel, who has been prosecuted as the alleged perpetrator of a crime related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals, for animal abuse.

He has also been denounced for lacking various documentation related to the business he ran. The investigated, along with the proceedings, has been made available to the Investigating Court of Totana (Murcia). Crime of animal abuse The crime of animal abuse is included in the Penal Code, which defines it as the act of unjustifiably mistreating animals, by any means or procedure, causing them injuries that seriously impair their health and is punishable by three months and one day to one year in prison and special disqualification of one year and one day to three years for the exercise of profession, trade or trade related to animals and for the keeping of animals. Campaign against abuse and neglect of domestic animals #YoSiPuedoContarlo With the main objective of raising awareness among citizens to promote the necessary measures in the protection, management and welfare of domestic animals, as well as to denounce those behaviors contrary to animal welfare of which they are aware, the Civil Guard began in July 2017 campaign #YoSiPuedoContarlo. The Civil Guard has been detecting an increase in citizen awareness, not only through formal complaints, but also among users of social networks, as shown by the fact that one of the topics that generates the most interaction in our Twitter followers and Facebook is the request for citizen collaboration to clarify crimes of mistreatment of animals.
