80 volunteers participated last weekend in the environmental awareness day 'Take care of our beaches' that led them to clean the beaches of El Puerto and El Rihuete.

The activity was organized by the Department of Environment and Services of the Coast with the collaboration of the platform 'Mazarrón Sí', the 'Camping Las Torres' and the company 'Salazones Valera', which offered the supplies to the participants.

The Councilors for the Environment, Plácida Gómez, and Servicios del Litoral, Raquel Raja, welcomed the participants together with David Fernández, from 'Mazarrón Sí' and Alfonso Morenilla from the Camping 'Las Torres';

thanking them for the involvement in this initiative and raising awareness, especially for the little ones, that "those plastics and waste on our beaches go directly to the sea, affecting our Marine Environment," said Plácida Gómez.

Information that also transferred to the participants Raquel Raja, who, as a delegate in addition to Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock;

He recalled that "those plastics that reach the sea are eaten by the fish and then those same fish arrive at our tables. So keeping our beaches clean also improves our health, while taking care of our environment."

David Fernández, representing 'Mazarrón YES', thanked the Department of Environment and Services of the Coast, as well as the cleaning company Bahía de Mazarrón, for organizing this initiative and also wanted to convey a special thanks to the Department of Tourism that had worked in the dissemination and promotion of the activity.

After the cleaning day, about 500 kilos of waste collected by the participants were counted, including 34 boys and girls from an academy in Mazarrón and a children's center in Santomera, as well as customers of the Las Torres campsite that have been precursors of these days with the organization of the same in previous occasions.
