"Carlantum" closes this year's edition with the presentation of the proceedings of the XIV conference (05/03/2020)

Like everything in life, it is essential to know the history of a place so as not to repeat the failures of the past and, above all, to improve or innovate in the development of what is already implemented.

That without a doubt is one of the many objectives of the City Council of Mazarrón;

that its citizens know their own culture and the most characteristic aspects of the history and society of their municipality.

That is why every year, for 18 editions, the study days on Mazarrón called 'Carlantum' are held through the Department of Culture and the Popular University.

Thus, this year its XVIII edition was held from February 17 to 28, with five conferences and the presentation of the minutes of the fourteenth day.

A new cultural meeting that has allowed us to deepen the past of the municipality.

These presentations took place on February 17, 19, 21, 24 and 28 every night in the exhibition hall of Constitution Avenue.

They were able to know the 'Psychosocial portrait of a town' through the gaze of the psychologist Carmen Navarro, the mining trains of Mazarrón through the great experience of Miguel Morales, the 'Ethnography and underwater archeology of the coast of Mazarrón' together with Francisco Ureña while thanks to Francisco Javier Blaya, the story of a member of the Red Cross in the 19th century could be learned, in addition to the 'Natural Risks in Mazarrón' with Daniel Moreno.

This year's edition was closed, as usual, with the presentation of the publication of the minutes of, on this occasion, XIV conference.

Conchi Aparicio, Councilor for Education, Plácida Gómez, responsible for the Department of Environment, Raquel Raja, Councilor for Tourism, and the Director of the Popular University, José María López;

They were present at the closing of this year.

The presentation of the minutes of the XIV conference of 'Carlantum' also had the participation of Juan Francisco Belmar and Sergio Fernández in front.

On the other hand, the experience of Juan Francisco Belmar allowed those present to know everything that had to do with the catastrophe in the mines while Sergio Fernández spoke of a sad reality lived in our municipality: violence and repression in Murcia Republican

In addition, in the publication of the proceedings of that edition you can find much more information about the history of our municipality, for example about the Francoist repression in Mazarrón that Pedro Mª Egea Bruno talks about and about the Mediterranean crews by the hand of Manuel Luna Sampeiro, who reports on the stability and change in the identity territories of peasant-rooted music.

In short, 'CARLANTUM' is an opportunity to bring local culture to the mazarroneros, in order to get to know the historical and cultural background of the municipality.
