The Virgin of Sorrows announces the arrival of Holy Week in Puerto de Mazarrón (03/03/2020)

The church of San José de Puerto de Mazarrón hosted the presentation of the poster announcing the arrival of Holy Week in the coastal town that this year shows La Virgen de las Penas, head of the brotherhood that organizes the events of this year.

The poster is the work of the Mazarronera photographer Teresa López Acosta and shows the virgin contemplating her crucified son.

The presentation was attended by the pastor of the church of San José, Juan José Noguera, the mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, the councilors of the municipal corporation Conchi Aparicio, Tomás Ureña, Alicia Jiménez and Marisol Vivancos;

as well as representatives of the cabildos and brotherhoods of the holy weeks of Mazarrón and Puerto.

As Teresa López explained, "looking at the Virgin puts all Christians at the center of the Passion and Death of Our Lord. That is why I wanted her precious image to occupy a preferential place in the poster. May it be her tender look and the painful expression of her face of suffering that fills us with love for Christians, "said the photographer.

"Let it be she who, looking at us from the front, makes us understand the pain of her Son who will give her life for us. May it be her bitterness and her silent suffering that gives us the certainty that her Son will resurrect and save humanity. And also, that is why I wanted her to be her Crucified Son, in the pain of her agony, who accompanies her on this poster, "Lopez concluded.

During the act, the names of the crier and 'Nazarene of the Year' were also announced.

Pascual Sánchez Hernández will be in charge of proclaiming Holy Week in Puerto de Mazarrón on Friday of Dolores, while that same day, Rafael Fernández Muñoz will be recognized as 'Nazarene of the Year'.

Mayor Gaspar Miras and the Councilor for Education, Conchi Aparicio, congratulated both the author of the cartel and the crier and 'Nazarene of the Year', inviting those present to live these dates with devotion.

A few words that were endorsed by Juan José Noguera who also gave account of religious programming, both in relation to Holy Week and the feasts of San José.

The event also featured the performance of the singer María Dolores Díaz 'La Mojaquera' who performed various bolts to open and close this appointment with which the Holy Week of Puerto de Mazarrón begins.
