The great Mediterranean rivers will focus this year the IX Mediterranean Encounters "Phicaria" (21/02/2020)

Mazarrón will host from 6 to 8 Mazarrón, the IX Mediterranean Encounters 'Phicaria' that, on this occasion, will deal with the great rivers of the Mediterranean.

Under the title 'Ways of Culture: The great rivers of the Mediterranean, a heritage to be valued', the appointment has been presented by the mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, the Councilor for Culture, Ginés Campillo, and the director of the Popular University, José María López Ballesta.

López Ballesta stressed that "this year the program is closely linked to rivers. The great river channels that pour its waters into the Mediterranean soon became important communication channels: ideas, technologies, cults, objects -culture in the broadest sense of the word - they have traveled through them ".

All these topics will be addressed by researchers and attendees to the meeting, as indicated by the director of the UP, through different presentations and communications.

Thus, the Nile, associated with myth and religion, The Orontes, for its crossroads in the Middle East, the Rhone, between the Mediterranean and a massive continent, the Po, for its connection between Central Europe and the Mediterranean, The Tiber , as the backbone of an empire, the Ebro, as a rowing, sailing and serge road;

the Guadalquivir, river of tartesos, the rivers of Greek mythology and finally the Segura;

the rivers will be protagonists of the conferences that will come from the voice of specialists from universities such as Cantabria, Castilla La Mancha, Seville, Paris-Nanterre, Ca'Foscari de Venezia, Roma Tre and Murcia, as well as the Culture Service of the City Council of Saragossa.

The Councilor for Culture, Ginés Campillo, has congratulated the 9 years of life of this congress "which were created in 2011 and has remained the same as with all bets that are organized from the Popular University".

The mayor has highlighted the international character of these days.
