The mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, attended yesterday the meeting called by farmers of the municipality before the demonstration scheduled for tomorrow in Murcia, in order to express the support of the City Council to this protest.
Gaspar Miras also transferred to the numerous farmers from Mazarron that came together, the will to collaborate with the town hall to achieve its objectives.
Farmers and ranchers from all over Spain complain that low prices at source increasingly affect more productions and production costs soar;
agricultural income falls by 9% and, to this, we must add the difficulties to export (Brexit, American tariffs, Russian veto ...) and the dreaded cut in community aid they plan from Brussels.
The agrarian associations therefore require urgent and coordinated action by administrations with fair prices for their products, end distribution abuses, prevent unfair competition from third countries, have sufficient irrigation water for a reasonable price and a fair Common Agricultural Policy in order to avoid depopulation of rural areas.
The mayor of Mazarrón stressed that "these are just claims that must be supported by both administrations and citizens, since it is a problem that affects us all."
In this sense, Gaspar Miras, explained that "without farmers or ranchers there will be no food and it will aggravate the depopulation of rural areas."
The mayor considers that it is "necessary that we all face together the challenges that are presented to us because the problems that affect the agricultural sector are directly related to issues of significant importance such as the demographic challenge of the emptied Spain, climate change or the social imbalances between rural and urban areas. "
Tomorrow's demonstration in Murcia is scheduled for 11 am with departure from the Palace of San Esteban to the Government Delegation.
And the participation of 230 tractors and 5000 people is expected.
