The municipality and the ITREM sign in Fitur the agreement for the development and promotion of route 8 of "EuroVelo" (29/01/2020)

Last Wednesday the mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, and the general director of the Tourism Institute of the Region of Murcia (ITREM), Juan Francisco Martínez, signed the Cooperation Agreement between the regional tourism agency and the City Council of Mazarrón for development and promotion of the 'EuroVelo' cycle route.

The 'EuroVelo 8 - Mediterranean Route' route is part of the 15 cycling routes that run throughout Europe, which, starting from the Greek city of Athens, reaches Cádiz through the autonomous communities of Catalonia, Valencia, Murcia and Andalusia.

As regards the municipality of Mazarrón, the route runs parallel to the coast, entering through the RM-332 and crossing Puerto de Mazarrón until reaching Bolnuevo, where it takes the road of the coves until reaching Punta de Calnegre.

With the signed agreement, it is proposed to carry out the necessary work for the improvement of signaling, road conditioning, certification of the routes and promotion of the route between the general public and specialized operators.

'EuroVelo' a network of long-distance cycling routes (currently 16) that cross Europe from end to end.

The routes, a project of the European Cyclist Federation, can be used for bicycle tourism across the continent, as well as for small journeys.

In November 2019, there were already more than 45,000 km adapted for the routes and some of the routes are expected to be complete by 2020. The totality of the 'EuroVelo' routes will be almost 90,000 km when the 16 routes currently planned are completed.
