The mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, has activated this afternoon the Municipal Emergency Plan in its pre-emergency phase before the red alert in the Region of Murcia due to heavy rains that this morning activated the State Meteorological Agency.
The mayor has also chaired an emergency meeting at the City Council of Mazarrón in which there was the presence of Civil Protection and Municipal Emergency Service (SEM), Local Police, Civil Guard and Red Cross, as well as the practically all members of the government team.
At the meeting it was decided to suspend classes in the municipality of Mazarrón for Thursday and Friday, as well as close for Thursday and Friday the Center for the Elderly, Intellectual Disability and Alzheimer's Unit and Early Care Center.
Likewise, it is recommended not to go to the municipal pavilions and sports centers.
During the meeting, the areas that may be most affected by the arrival of heavy rains have been studied in detail, paying special attention to the area of Bahia, around the Rambla de Las Moreras and flooding areas of Camposol where specific plans for action in case of having to proceed urgently.
The City Council of Mazarrón advises the residents of the municipality that during the days of Thursday and Friday try to avoid unnecessary displacement in anticipation of heavy rains.
In case of an emergency, citizens are reminded that the most correct thing is to call the 112 emergency number of the Region of Murcia, both to transfer an emergency and to request some type of information about the activated alert.
The recommendations of 112 at home in this situation is to clean roofs, decks, downspouts and drains of the house.
Check the places in your house that can flood and protect them.
Place documents and valuables out of reach of water.
Teach the whole family to disconnect water, electricity and gas.
Prepare water, food and medicines you may need.
Also, find out about the weather forecast through the media, website and social networks of the City Council of Mazarrón and other profiles on social networks such as 112. Stay away from water currents, especially waterways.
Do not park in its channel or cross on foot or by car where the water runs, as the current could drag you.
If it rains a lot, it is better not to leave and, if so, use public transport and try to travel on main roads.
