Estrella de Levante and the Department of Commerce and Consumption of the City Council of Mazarrón have proceeded with the installation of 7 beverage can compactors in various parts of the municipality as an initiative to promote recycling and the circular economy.
Thus, the municipality adheres to this initiative launched in other parts of the Region of Murcia.
Through a simple gesture, which is explained at the top of the compactor, any citizen can recycle the cans he consumes.
More than 40 can compactors with the image of VERNA - the beer with lemon from the Murcian beer company - or the classic Estrella de Levante are available to the user as an aluminum recycling point in the Region.
The 7 installed in Mazarrón are located in the Plaza Toneleros, on the Rihuete promenade, in Playagrande, two on the Costa Cálida avenue, another in front of the Phoenician Ship Interpretation Center and one last in Bolnuevo.
There are 2,000 aluminum cans in each compactor that, today, need 40% less metal than the cans that were manufactured 25 years ago, less energy and raw material.
It is a residue of easy handling, light, that does not break, does not burn and does not oxidize.
It is easily compacted and has important advantages because 100% of the aluminum can be recycled without diminishing its quality.
The Councilor for Commerce and Consumption, Silvia García, explained that "it is an initiative at cost 0 for the City Council. Cruz Roja Mazarrón is responsible for the maintenance, collection of cans and cleaning of compactors, obtaining benefits by recycling aluminum ".
From Estrella de Levante, they have commented that "the collaboration with the municipalities encourages the commitment to the environment and people, and awareness of the advantages of recycling to citizens."
