The 'Music and Nature' series pays tribute this year to the Gredas de Bolnuevo for its declaration as a Natural Monument (16/05/2019)

The performances continue on May 17 in Águilas, on May 28 in Abarán and on May 30 and June 5 in Murcia

The ninth edition of the cycle 'Music and Nature' will start today with a concert to celebrate the recent declaration of the Gredas de Bolnuevo, in Mazarrón, as a Natural Monument.

The programming of this cycle, organized by the Directorate General of Natural Environment and the Music Conservatory of Murcia with the support of the Cajamurcia Foundation and with funding from the European Fund for Regional Development (Feder), continues on 17 May in Águilas , on May 28 in Abarán, and two more concerts in Murcia, one on May 30 in the Culture Hall of the Cajamurcia Foundation and another on June 5, in the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga.

The performances, featuring the more than 300 students of all the courses of the Professional Teachings of the Conservatory of Music of Murcia, combine musical pieces performed by chamber groups, orchestras and bands with visual projections in which you can see images of different natural spaces to try to contribute to spread the wealth and natural values of the Region and raise awareness and sensitize the population about the importance of conservation and respect for the environment.

The General Director of Medio Medio, Consuelo Rosauro, explained that on this occasion they wanted to value the declaration as a Natural Monument of the Gredas de Bolnuevo, "since they are the second protected natural area of the Region that reaches this category, in addition to be one of the most outstanding Geological Interest Places in the Region and an emblematic space for its uniqueness, its high scenic interest and its great ecological, geological and paleontological value, "said Rosauro.

The Gredas de Bolnuevo, known as the 'Enchanted City of Bolnuevo', are the most representative example of differential erosion in the region, with geomorphological forms of great particularity that reach up to 10 meters high and modeled by the action of wind and water .

These formations stand out within a semi-arid landscape of special attraction and an ecosystem of extraordinary singularity where forest masses of scrub predominate and where you can find species such as the Bonelli's eagle, the eagle owl, the peregrine falcon, the black tortoise or the ocellated lizard .

Closing concert

In this first concert, which will take place today in the church of San José del Puerto de Mazarrón, the classical orchestra integrated by the students of the Conservatory of Music will perform works by Händel, Beethoven, Haydn, Fauré and Rossini.

On May 17, at the Auditorium Infanta Doña Elena de Águilas, an ensemble of wind, string and key and a brass quintet will perform two concerts aimed at schoolchildren and commemorating the International Day of Biological Diversity.

Directed also to school children, on May 28 will be held at the theater Cervantes de Abarán other two concerts that are framed in this case in the celebration of the European Day of Parks and will be played by a trio of plectrum and guitar and a quintet of wind.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, there will also be two concerts in Murcia, one on May 30 with five chamber groups in the Gran Vía Culture Classroom of the Cajamurcia Foundation, and the closing concert on June 5, that after the success of the last edition will take place again in the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga.
