The Mazarrón treatment plant will expand its facilities to provide a service that responds to population growth (03/08/2018)

The treatment plant of Mazarron has a current capacity of 15,000 cubic meters per day, which in 2017 involved a treatment of more than 2.5 cubic hectometres that were made available to irrigators in the area.

This plant serves a population of 38,238 inhabitants.

Alicia Jiménez, mayor of Mazarrón, accompanied on Friday in his visit to Mazarrón the general secretary of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, María Dolores Valcárcel, who has confirmed the completion of expansion works.

Jiménez has expressed "his satisfaction to see how from the regional administration have met the demands made from the City to expand an installation that serves a growing population."

During the event, they visited the land and the location where the plant expansion work will be carried out, which will consist of a fourth line that will allow a pretreatment for the sweet line and a new tertiary treatment.

The expansion works will involve an investment of more than 6.7 million euros by the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.

The general secretary of the Ministry of Water together with the managing director of the entity of Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment of the Region of Murcia (Esamur), Joaquín Ruiz, has indicated that "this wastewater treatment plant reuses up to 2,650 tons of sludge from the process of water treatment that is dedicated to agriculture, being an example of a circular economy ".
