Tower winch in mid performance improvement (21/07/2009)

The mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, and the Councillor of Tourism, Alicia Jiménez, have visited the renovation and refurbishment of the Tower of the winch from which you can see the entire municipality.

The first gear of this action is the restoration and adaptation of the winch tower which will lead to improvements and value as a tourist resource of the ancient defensive towers in the municipality of Mazarrón.

The objectives of this first action: the consolidation and restoration of cultural property, improving the accessibility, the conditioning of the environment as a public space and information and performing actions.

The second phase of this project is to adapt and improve the landscape of Windlass Hill.

The proposal holds its value as a tourist resort at the same time as improving urban space, with particular attention to improving the accessibility, as well as the refurbishment of the environment as public space and the enclosure for better environment conservation.

This action is of great importance because it is a large urban park contained within the town of Mazarrón and it is an important landmark, one of three watchtowers that are preserved in the town.

This site also has an important landscape value, from which you can identify and see nearly all of Mazarrón monuments as the Castle of Velez, the town hall, the San Cristobal mining Coto, the churches of San Antonio and San Andrés and the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

To facilitate visitors, the tower will experience improvements in the accessibility, the conditioning of the environment as a public space in the perimeter fence.

Will be addressed last phase of vegetation recovery and construction of an arboretum which further beautify this natural tourist showcase.

The works, valued at an amount of 280,000 euros, financed by the Consorcio Turístico de Mazarrón, made by the municipality of Mazarrón through the Department of Tourism and the Autonomous Community of Murcia Region through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
