The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Thomas Violante, accompanied by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jimenez, and the councilor for the Quality of Life of the City of Cartagena, Francisco Calderon, visited residential centers of El Peñasco (Mazarrón) and Isla Plana (Cartagena), which have 136 accommodation places and are inventory of resources available to address the reception of applicants for international protection.

The visit also included representatives of the Red Cross, Caritas and ACCEM.

The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Thomas Violante said that "the assistance of non-governmental organizations is invaluable, as well as the resources of lodging and counseling they can offer, have extensive prior experience in hosting in defense of the most vulnerable, and can meet the needs of the citizens who will arrive in conditions of extreme inequality and insecurity ".

The Interdepartmental Commission, which includes representatives of the regional government, local authorities and NGOs, is finalizing the inventory of resources available to address the reception of applicants for international protection.

This inventory detailing what will be needed in the field, education, health and housing working citizens who come to be relocated.

The counselor explained that these demands "will be harmonized with the map of resources we are getting from each of each of the municipalities in the region".

In this regard, he added that "they are getting reports to know what resources are available in terms of material goods, and what services we can provide for all necessary guarantees for the placement and subsequent integration are met."

The Interdepartmental Commission also plans to request information to banks to know how many houses can be made available to the refugees.

It also maintains collaboration with the Government Delegation in the Region of Murcia.

The Commission currently coordinates four types of resources: the Community own devices, the media NGOs, government initiatives and public entities of different nature and proposals of joint cooperation of individuals and families.

The next step in the roadmap will be known after the announcement of the Ministry, to present data on those who are to relocate in each region and the logistical arrangements for the transfer.

In Spain, the responsibility for asylum international protection and therefore resettlement depend on the central government.
