Students of the UMU deepen in their studies of the Phoenician civilization (18/09/2015)

Students of the University of Murcia Mazarrón involved these days in a research course entitled "Project Mazarrón Phoenician."

The idea came from the CEPOAT (Center for Middle Eastern Studies and Late Antiquity at the University of Murcia) and he collaborates Mazarrón City Council and other bodies such as the FASRM (Federation of Underwater Activities in the Region of Murcia) .

The project therefore fits into the study of both the Phoenician trading contact with indigenous populations and territory study area, both at land and underwater surveys to a greater understanding of these contacts and cultural exchanges.

In this sense the study of coastal populations and the study of underwater surveys Letters and raised in this project aim profundizaren the history of the area and its Phoenician contact, trying to go beyond the known data widening the field of study of the Phoenicians in the area of ​​Mazarrón.

The project study area is the coastline between Cala Leño Mazarrón and Puerto de Mazarrón.

This is an area rich in underwater and onshore fields among which Crane, Cueva Lobos Island, El Castellar, Los Gavilanes, Punta de Nares Beach Island Islao Adentro.

The team that protects the course is formed by Professor of Archaeology at the University of Murcia José Miguel Noguera Celdrán, Dr. Gonzalo Matilla and specialized in underwater archeology Juan Pinedo archaeologists, Joseph Lajara, José Javier Martinez, Celso Sanchez, and the Archaeologist Town Council of Mazarron, Maria Martinez Mayor

During these two weeks from 13 to 27 September by a training course lay the theoretical and methodological foundations for research practices of the discipline in which important aspects such as planning interventions and the specific study to be carried try with materials found in an address or the application of new technologies to underwater archeology.
