RM EQUO appears contrary to the resumption of open pit mining in Mazarron (02/06/2015)

The attempt to reopen the mines in Mazarrón by the Directorate General of Mines, under the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Business and Innovation, is an absurdity, according to the Green Party, for the high environmental impact will mean for area.

Again is to make an extractive activity, which had its heyday in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, but this time with one embodiment, the open pit mining, which has an impact on the much higher health by fumes, dust suspended, noise and vibration of machines and explosions, which can affect people coming to these mines, in the form of respiratory diseases or nervous system.

Moreover, the environment will be affected very negatively by pollution of groundwater, the removal of vegetation cover, soil removal, the accumulation of waste in landfills or the use of heavy metals in the process.

Therefore, RM EQUO urges the Ministry of Industry will not allow preliminary studies to determine the mineral resources, as they open the door to this extractive activity, especially in a post-election period in which we find ourselves, in which even It has not defined the future regional government.

Prudence should guide the actions of this Ministry, refraining from granting exploration permits in recent months.

By contrast, EQUO advised that a decided change in the production model based on green jobs, well away from such activities, which do not produce environmental impacts and a source of jobs of high quality starts.
