The City Council and Ucomur sign an agreement to strengthen the social economy in the municipality (15/11/2011)

The Town Council of Mazarron and the Union of Cooperatives of the Region of Murcia (Ucomur) yesterday signed a cooperation agreement that has as main objective the creation of new social economy enterprises in the municipality.

The Mayor, Ginés Campillo, and Ucomur president, Juan Antonio Pedreño, signed this agreement which is the first agreement to be performed between the consistory Mazarron and this organization.

The event was attended by fifty entrepreneurs who conduct their economic and commercial activity under this type of business in the municipality.

Ucomur president, Juan Antonio Pedreño, said after signing the agreement that "this door opens a new stage that will allow us to be closer to getting new projects" and congratulated the City Council for signing this agreement "that drives the new law social economy, which calls on the government to encourage this type business. "

Pedreño revealed that the first action Ucomur held in the municipality will be conducting lectures and workshops aimed at those citizens who wish to undertake a project.

Also, another of the initiatives planned is an exhibition on 25 years of cooperatives in the Region of Murcia and also review the history of the social economy in Mazarron.

This show will be framed within Ucomur acts take place in 2012 to mark the International Year of Cooperatives has declared the United Nations Organization (UNO).

It is expected that activities in this celebration takes place at 5 different points of the region.

The Mayor of Mazarron, Ginés Campillo, thanked Ucomur shown the willingness to make a success of this agreement "was conceived during the General Assembly and which will get more opportunities, more out of the crisis and more training."

To the Mayor "this agreement is an essential tool with which work towards new businesses that create jobs and wealth in the municipality."

The municipality will work together with this from the Local Development Agency and the Local Employment Center.

Also present at the signing Councillor for Finance and Revenue, Andrew James, and Ucomur vice president and delegate of the agency in Mazarron, Juan Pablo Muñoz.

In 2010, 139 cooperatives were registered as companies in the Region of Murcia and "this year we have 129, which has positioned us as the first autonomous region of Spain in the creation of social economy enterprises," the president who stressed Ucomur also in the region "there are over 1,500 cooperatives of which over 1,400 are associated labor and employing more than 20,000 people."
