El Coto Fortuna Mazarrón receive the declaration of a Cultural (25/02/2011)

El Coto Fortuna is situated in the hamlet of Blacksmith, about seven miles west of the present town of Mazarrón.

This is one of the most important mining areas of the Iberian Peninsula exploited in antiquity, as evidenced by the numerous written references found since the nineteenth century to the present national and international scientific publications.

Recently there has been a superficial archaeological survey and a compilation of existing properties in this area has recorded more than a hundred properties, including miners and metal elements, labor exploitation, archaeological and ethnographic.

In Murcia and European museums are deposited numerous objects and elements from the Coto Fortuna, as well casing tables, baskets, water wheels, lead ingots, bases, tombstones, and other objects.

El Coto Fortuna is one of the main models in the Mediterranean area to understand the cultural evolution of the mining operations and transformations of lead and silver, which also converge and other relevant assets of various types which give the area bounded great importance since scientific point of view, historical, archaeological, mining, geological and heritage.
