The recovery of the submerged archaeological heritage centers the interest of the VII edition of Phicaria (21/02/2018)

The Popular University and the Department of Culture of the City of Mazarrón, in collaboration with the University of Murcia, organize the VII International Meeting of the Mediterranean "Phicaria" under the title, on this occasion, "The Recovery of the Submerged Archaeological Heritage: Problems and Proposals ".

The appointment will take place from March 2 to 4 in the room of the Popular University located in the Avenue of the Constitution of Mazarrón.

This new edition of Phicaria was presented this week by the Councilor for Culture, Pedro Martínez and the director of the Popular University of Mazarrón, José María López.

Italian, British and Spanish speakers from universities, research centers, archeology and reference museums come to these meetings.

After the opening on Friday, March 2, the Carmen García Rivera cycle of the Underwater Archeology Center will open with the conference "The Delta Project, an example of research and protection of the underwater archaeological heritage of Andalusia".

Carlos de Juan Fuentes of the Università di Bologna will continue with the paper entitled "The wreck Bou Ferrer (Villajoyosa) Protection and dissemination measures".

Saturday 3 March will be the turn for Gustav Vivar Lombarte of the Underwater Archeology Center of Catalonia with an intervention focused on the practical examples of the last 10 years of archaeological material conservation in his work center.

Michelle Stefanille from the Universitá degli Studi di Napoli will talk about the study and conservation of the submerged remains of Campania and Latium.

In the afternoon, Andrea Camilli of the Sopritendeza per i Beni Archeologici della Toscana will hold the presentation "The naves and the Museum of the ships of Pisa".

Subsequently, Sauro Gelichi of the Università Ca'Foscari di Venezia and Simon Keay of the University of Southampton will talk about the "Boats in the delta del Po" and the "Great Port of Rome".

On Sunday, March 4, Milagros Buendía and Juan Luis Sierra of the National Museum of Subactical Archeology will offer a lecture entitled "The Conservation of Ivory of Underwater Origin: The Elephant Defenses of the Bass of the Bell of the Arqua".

The last intervention, before the closure, will be by Felipe Cerezo of the University of Cádiz and will be entitled "From extraction to the valorization of historical wrecks, conceptual evolution of the purest value of underwater finds".

At 13:30 the Closing Ceremony of the Conferences and Delivery of Diplomas will take place.
