The new roundabout for access to the Mazarrón sports center improves traffic flow on a route through which 5 million vehicles pass through the year (12/04/2017)

The roundabout has invested 258,000 euros, has a diameter of 68 meters, two lanes of four meters and shoulders and the drainage has been renewed to improve the evacuation of waters

It has 14 anti-shock streetlights to increase road safety and minimize injuries and damage to the vehicle.

The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Pedro Rivera, and the mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez, today inaugurated the new roundabout on the regional road RM-332, at the height of the sports center Media Legua, to improve safety and The fluidity of the circulation of this road, which carry 5 million vehicles a year.

"The new roundabout is essential in the communications of the municipality because it will give a better service to the neighbors who move to the sports center to practice sports and the thousands of tourists who arrive in Mazarrón, especially in times like Easter and summer, when you arrive To triple the population, "said Pedro Rivera.

The Minister stressed that this infrastructure "was a request and neighborhood of the Municipality of Mazarron that the regional government prioritized, because it is a road that receives an intense circulation and also pedestrian, adding residents in its environment and connecting the municipality With the Port of Mazarrón ".

Pedro Rivera said that the roundabout "has a fundamental importance in the development and future of the locality", since "this is a previous step and necessary for the future unfolding of the road, which has the section of track, a Only lane by direction, with more daily traffic of the whole Region, with more than 13,500 vehicles per day.

"It is fundamental to continue looking for alternative financing methods, such as public-private partnerships, that allow us to continue building better infrastructure and to make the region an attractive space with good communications to increase the generation of jobs and wealth," he said.

Impulse to innovation in road safety

The roundabout is located at the kilometer point 34.6 of the road and replaces the T-shaped intersection in this road, which made it difficult to turn the vehicles that wanted to access the sports city of Mazarrón.

Its construction has meant an investment of more than 258,000 euros.

The new roundabout has four entrance and exit branches, of which two correspond to the RM-332, with an access lane and an exit lane;

One to the sports complex, with two lanes, and one to the service road, with an access and exit lane.

It has an exterior diameter of 68 meters, two lanes of four meters around, shoulders and berms, which will make compatible the roundabout with the future unfolding of this stretch of road.

The drainage system has been renewed to ensure the correct evacuation of surface water, the necessary signals and beacons, and urbanization work has been carried out inside the roundabout.

Likewise, 14 anti-shock lamps have been installed, between 10 and 12 meters high, in order to increase road safety on the road.

These luminaires, LED type, have a fusible drawer in the base, which in case of impact, disassembles by itself and, thanks to installed rails, exit towards the gutter, never towards the track.

This minimizes damage to the vehicle and especially to human injuries and losses.

In addition, streetlamps include a set of elements that prevent the opening of electricity troughs, protect the wiring from the inside of the pipe, make it impossible to open the log book cover and prevent the subtraction of copper wire.
