The Mazarron priest Francisco De Haro Martinez was beatified along with 114 religious on Saturday in Almeria at an event held in the palace of exhibitions and congresses in Aguadulce, presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato in representation of the Holy Pontiff.
Also present were the bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, José Manuel Lorca, the parish priest of San Andrés and San Antonio, Francisco Hernández and the vicar Carlos Casero together with a group of 45 parishioners from Mazarrón.
The mayor, Alicia Jiménez, accompanied the delegation Mazarron in a historic event for the municipality, since it is the first beatification of a person born in the municipality.
Francisco De Haro Martínez was baptized in 1886 in the parish of San Antonio de Padua.
His vocation to the priesthood began in the Seminary of Murcia at the age of 11, passing later on the Barcelona Seminary and concluding his studies at the Seminary of Almeria.
He was ordained a priest in 1912 in the chapel of San Indalecio in the cathedral of Almeria.
He was chaplain of the Little Sisters of the Helpless Elders since 1914 and the Little Sisters since 1916. He was also Prefect of the Discipline of the Diocesan Synod of 1929. According to the documents provided by the Diocese of Almería, "he was martyred on August 31 1936 in the well of the Caterpillar, of the municipality of Tabernas ".
On Sunday, March 26, a Mass in thanksgiving for the beatification of Francisco De Haro Martínez was celebrated in the church of San Andrés de Mazarrón.
