Mazarrón receives the award "Green Igloo" for his performance in the recycling of glass (27/10/2016)

Councilman Environment of the City of Mazarrón, Francisco García Asensio, attended Wednesday in Murcia the ceremony the award "Igloo Green" awarded by the Department of Environmental Quality and Ecovidrio, a non-profit organization responsible for managing the recycling of glass packaging waste in Spain.

6 municipalities in the region participating in the campaign, San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar, Cartagena, Los Alcázares, Aguilas and Mazarrón have gotten the mentioned reward for exceeding the recycling target set.

Summer 2016 launched by Ecovidrio and the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment Plan has managed to recycle 1,604,000 kilograms of glass during the months of July and August, 20 percent more than the same period last year .

As part of the Plan, Ecovidrio installed 8 new containers and delivered more than 284 bins with wheels, adapted to the needs of professional restaurateurs.

In addition, the company expanded the frequency of collection of glass to properly manage the high influx of visitors and increased activity in the hospitality sector.

In addition, in order to mobilize citizens, Ecovidrio decorated with special vinyls 220 containers of coastal municipalities.

Nationally, the Plan has had the participation of nearly 10,000 catering establishments in 94 coastal municipalities that have recycled more than 22,000 tons of glass containers.
