Mazarrón hosts the first conference on subtropical agricultural crops (10/03/2016)

The initiative committed other productions as an alternative to traditional plantations |

Mazarrón City Council and the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment have organized for April 7 in Mazarrón a technical seminar entitled "Introduction of the Subtropical Fruit Growing in Litoral Murciano".

An informational meeting hosted by the Cultural Center and will feature speeches by national and international experts from the subtropical crops, agricultural alternative that wants to implant in the municipality and the rest of the Region of Murcia.

The conference will be inaugurated by the Minister of Agriculture, Adela Martinez-Cacho, the Mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jimenez and Jesus Lopez, territorial director of Cajamar, entity involved in organizing the event.

The initiative, according to the Councillor for Agriculture, Isabel Maria Lopez, the firm commitment of the City Council to strengthen the agricultural sector by providing new ideas and new types of farming, with the consequent economic benefit this can have medium and long-term municipality.

Activity company works Mazarron Duran has already begun production of this crop type, namely papaya and mango as detailed Juan Andrés Gálvez, head of the company.

The content of the conference were presented Wednesday in one of his plantations.

Jose Tomas Gallego, municipal agricultural technician, detailed programming that addresses based on agronomic requirements, varieties and improvement and marketing aspects, as well as a section on food and nutrition that will showcase the culinary uses of papaya, with a demonstration of the chef Pablo Gómez San Miguel.

Jose Tomas Gallego stresses that this type of crop "is presented as an interesting economic activity, supported by the trend in demand towards high quality products, good taste and respectful obtaining the environment, and the geographical exclusivity for production and the privileged position of our products in the European market against other producing countries ".

Subtropical crops have begun to be implemented successfully in points Almeria and Malaga coast.

Mazarrón recorded similar climatic conditions to ensure the success of its implementation.
