Mazarrón pays tribute to victims of mining accidents (26/02/2016)

The City of Mazarrón yield on Sunday 28 February, a tribute to the victims of mining accidents.

The initiative came from relatives of deceased in the mine and was taken to heart by the government team.

The event will take place at 13:00 hours at the roundabout to Avenue of the mulberry trees where the monument is the miner.

Attended by the members of the municipal corporation and representatives of the families of the deceased, in addition to all citizens who want to witness the event.

The event will begin with the interpretation of the piece "Air" (II Water Music) Handel, by an instrumental ensemble of the Band "Maestro Eugenio Calderon".

Then the mayor, Alicia Jimenez to all attendees will address.

Other speakers include two relatives of the miners and the parish priest of the church of San Andrés and San Antonio de Mazarrón.

Interventions completed a laurel wreath that will serve to honor all miners deposited municipality.

The band will close the event with the interpretation of the piece "Trumpet Voluntary" by Jeremiah Clarke.

This event is incorporated, in February, the schedule of official events of the municipality and joins others as a tribute to Mazarron victims in the concentration camps of Mauthausen held in the garden of Peace Mazarrón every 6 from December.

Accident at Pozo Maria Elena

The reason that February is the date chosen for this tribute claim is explained in what was the biggest tragedy in the mines of Mazarrón.

On February 16, 1893 killed 28 miners in an accident registered with the well Maria Elena unthought of mine.

It was the most tragic of many incidents occurring in the mining hills during the development of the activity developed mainly since the late nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century.
