Mazarrón Cartagena forth in its mining heritage at the hands of Juan Francisco Belmar (19/02/2016)

The exhibition "Mazarrón Heritage mining" contributes to the dissemination of local heritage, so he emphasized the Mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez, during the opening of the exhibition of the photographer Juan Francisco Belmar, held in the day yesterday at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.

The inauguration was attended by the Vice Chancellor of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Francisco Martinez, the Director General of Cultural Heritage, Maria Comas, Prof. Dr. in Geological Sciences, José Ignacio Manteca, the author of the exhibition, Juan Francisco Belmar, and the mayor, Alicia Jimenez.

The Vice Chancellor of the UPCT, Francisco Martinez, referred to the actions already being carried out in Mazarrón from the university and involving actions as the sample was inaugurated in which 80 photographs through a full tour offered by the mining and the rich legacy that this activity had stopped in the village.

Then the mayor, Alicia Jiménez, welcomed the holding of this event, "as it helps to raise awareness of the local heritage and helps to spread it."

The mayor stressed that "the work done by the author goes beyond the merely descriptive aspect, since the sample has been many school and, thanks to her, Mazarrón succeeding generations have known its history."

Therefore he congratulated the photographer, Juan Francisco Belmar, which he said also to have been the author of the Cartel de Mazarrón week.

Jimenez thanked the commitment of all those who have made this performance that has involved the Vice President of the University, Francisco Martinez, the People's University of Mazarrón, represented by its director José María López Ballesta, and the Department of Culture, with his council, Pedro Martinez, also present in the room.

For its part, the General Director of Cultural Heritage, Maria Comas, congratulated everyone for the great effort of putting an initiative of this kind in place.

Comas also referred to the "photographer's eye," the ability and sensitivity of the artist to capture the viewer's attention on an issue of particular importance as it is the mining heritage.

Photographer, Juan Francisco Belmar, said the ultimate goal of the exhibition in its original design was to introduce the mining heritage among themselves Mazarron, an initiative that was also extended to the schools in the municipality.

The author of the sample expressed his gratitude to all the authorities and who have made this exhibition possible.

He thanked the director of the People's University, José María López Ballesta, the fact that he was one of the first promoters of the project and the involvement and support received from the Department of Culture and the City of Mazarrón, and the Polytechnic University and the Directorate General for Cultural Property.

Belmar Professor Jose Ignacio Manteca, curator of the exhibition and also helped to give impetus to the sample also referred.

Belmar also thanked their presence Mazarron who traveled to Cartagena to support this event.

"Mazarrón Mining Heritage" found in the rooms of the building of the School of Industrial Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, occupying the entire exhibition area of ​​the center and will be open until March 28 during opening hours.

On weekends it is possible to visit the exhibition, by prior arrangement.
