The historical writing workshop returns to the Town Hall (27/08/2019)

The Councilor for Culture, Ginés Campillo, and the mazarronero graduated in Philosophy and calligraphy expert, Antonio Martínez, presented this morning a new edition of the 'Workshop of Historical Scriptures' that, after the good reception he had last year, will return to be held at the Town Hall of Mazarrón from September 20 to 22.

On this occasion, the initiative will focus on the Gothic round letter according to the Privilege of Villazgo de Mazarrón.

As explained by Antonio Martínez, who will be in charge of directing the activity, "the Privilege is a very interesting document to be able to know and learn the graphic writings of the Gothic letters and, above all, to be able to practice it", as it happened during the workshop held just over a year ago.

During the activity your facsimile and some photos of the Privilege will be taken to analyze the manuscript and know the techniques and materials that were used to build the document, to write it and illustrate it.

Materials such as guidelines, stick, metal pen, ink and paper are included in the activity, but participants can bring flat or paletin brushes, gouache, watercolors or acrylics and paper (Kraft paper is recommended) if they want to practice with large Gothic writings Last day format.

For the workshop, which is totally free, a maximum of 12 participants will be admitted and can register as of September 4 by calling 659 08 12 09.

The Privilege by which Felipe II grants Mazarrón the independence of Lorca, is a manuscript written in 1572 composed in parchment written with round Gothic letters, exquisitely illuminated and decorated with ornate Roman capitals and other elements.

It was customary for these documents to be issued on parchment, but "it seems that in this case we would find a letter made entirely of laid paper, although I think it is worth keeping reservations about it," Martínez explained, noting that the workshop also addressed aspects such as this one and that are directly related to the history of Mazarrón.

Finally, the Privilege will be the "excuse to show the evolution of Western writings from the first century to the sixteenth century and, above all, to learn the graphic form of round Gothic writing, handle ink and metal nib and practice the writing of our own hand to compose a small text ", Martínez added.

The Councilor for Culture of the City Council of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, stressed that "the election of the Charter of the privilege of Mazarrón to develop these workshops has been ideal to address this activity because it combines the objective of it, which is to know and practice the Round Gothic writing, with the transmission of our history among the participants. "

Campillo has thanked Antonio Martínez that "he is developing this type of initiatives in Mazarrón sharing with his people the knowledge and secrets of a trade, that of the pendolist, who has developed for entities such as the General Archive of the Region of Murcia, The Niemeyer Center de Avilés, at the Womad Festival of Cáceres or the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulcher of Mazarrón "and urged those interested to" participate and register quickly because last year was very successful and sure that this year will be very well received again ".
