The PSRM denounces the lack of tourism planning and strategy in the Region and the urgent need for a solid and sustainable model (19/08/2019)

Diego Conesa requires the Murcia Executive to reactivate the Commonwealth of Tourist Services of the Mar Menor;

highlights the determined commitment of the PSOE for the regeneration of Portman, and warns of threats such as Brexit, which this year has meant a 25 percent reduction in British tourism, something that can be aggravated in the coming months

The general secretary of the PSRM-PSOE and spokesman of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Diego Conesa, has denounced the lack of tourism strategy by the regional government, and recalled that the last rule that tried to establish a sun and beach strategy is 2004, and it was a resounding failure because it was focused on an urban model incompatible with sustainable tourism development.

He highlighted the seasonality problem that exists in regional tourism and criticized the absence of a defined strategy and adequate infrastructure.

Diego Conesa has held a working meeting in Mazarrón with regional and national deputies, senators, members of the CER and socialist mayors of the municipalities of the coast of the Region of Murcia.

He pointed out that the need for equipment on the beaches is common in all coastal municipalities, as is the need for better public transport infrastructure on the beaches.

"We have addressed a number of very important issues, some that in the short term threaten, such as Brexit, which this year in the coastal area has meant a 25 percent reduction in British tourism, and is an issue that can be aggravated in the coming months, "he said.

He has also highlighted the regeneration of Portman Bay as a priority and a firm commitment to the PSOE.

And in relation to the Mar Menor, Diego Conesa has cited the necessary coordination work, for which he has called on the regional government to reactivate the Commonwealth of Tourist Services of the Mar Menor.

The socialist leader has highlighted the unequivocal will of the Government of Spain, as stated in the election campaign by the President of the Government Pedro Sánchez, to bet on the Mar Menor in all that are his own powers.

"But what we are not going to admit, as we are seeing in other issues, is the escape from the regional government, escaping its powers. And for that, we invite the Minister of Development to worry about the roads that are the responsibility of the Autonomous Community, rural roads and regional secondary roads, some of them of vital importance for the tourism sector, "he said.

"We invite the entire regional government not to throw balls out and assume the powers of the Autonomous Community, which in the last 24 years have not been assumed. The PP has an extension thanks to Vox and Citizens to do something in the next four years, "he concluded.
